If you’ve been bouncing along to the Bootylicious song while you work out, you certainly are not alone. It’s a great upbeat song, so why not? But if you’ve been wondering how you can get a good-looking booty without doing endless squats or virtually living with a resistance band around your thighs, then this article is for you!

There is one machine that can give you a whole-body workout AND work that booty all at the same time – yes, you guessed it, the elliptical machine! Today, I want to talk to you about ellipticals and answer the question – Is elliptical good for buttocks?

Because let’s face it, everyone wants to know, right?

Is an Elliptical Really Good for the Buttocks?

Yes, elliptical machines are terrific for the butt and legs. Using the incline feature and going backward will help you reach your goals. In addition to improving your butt, ellipticals are also a good cardio workout, they help you burn a major number of calories and burn fat better than many other types of exercise.

I can’t count the number of exercise programs, Pinterest pins, and specialty exercise tools that have been designed to give you an uplifted, super looking behind! However, the truth of the matter is that most people can’t do endless squat repetitions, especially after 40. And while resistance bands do work, they seem like a great deal of effort that benefits only one part of the body.

That’s why you should start giving elliptical machines the attention that it deserves.

What Muscles Are Toned By an Elliptical Machine?

Almost all of the major muscle groups, actually, including your glutes.

Elliptical machines are one of the few pieces of exercise equipment that work both the upper body and lower body at the same time.

Rowing is perhaps the only other machine that works the entire body, but it is easier to work your glutes on an elliptical trainer.

The main muscles toned by elliptical training are:

  • Core muscles
  • Triceps
  • Biceps
  • Back
  • Chest
  • Quads
  • Hamstrings
  • Glutes

Be sure to use your elliptical machine correctly so that you are working your legs as much as you do your arms.

How Do You Work Your Glutes on Elliptical Machines?

The fastest and easiest way to pop out those glutes is to increase the incline and go in reverse for periods of time on your elliptical machine.

You should increase and then decrease the incline as you work out. This type of HIIT program is still low-impact, but it will have a tremendous effect on your glutes and in burning calories as well.

Aim to work out on your elliptical machine at least 5 days per week, about 30-35 minutes per session. You can warm up for a few minutes, then increase the incline to a 7 percent grade for 2 minutes, then go for an 11 percent incline for 2 minutes. Push yourself to do a 15 percent incline for 2 minutes, then return to an 11 percent incline, and go backward for 3 minutes.

Not all elliptical machines have a 15 percent incline, so just take it to the maximum if that is the case.

Repeat this sequence for a full 30-35 minutes ( don’t forget to cool down), and your butt will be absolutely bootylicious in a matter of weeks!

Is a Treadmill or Elliptical Better for the Lower Body and Glutes?

Both are excellent for the lower body and glutes, no doubt!

You can always use the incline on your treadmill for reducing fat and toning the muscles, but let me tell you what an elliptical offers that a treadmill doesn’t – an upper body workout!

Why do two separate workouts (upper body and lower body) when you can do both at the same time? This is one reason I love ellipticals and rowing machines, you only need to do one workout to get it all done at the same time!

I mean, I really enjoy working out, but I have a job and other chores that must get done. This means that I only have a certain number of hours each week dedicated to exercise. Personally, I want to get in my exercise all in one sitting!

If you love your treadmill, then increase the incline and go for it!

However, if you want to spend less time exercising but get the same results, go with an elliptical!

What Is the Best Exercise Machine for the Buttocks?

If we aren’t talking about a full-body exercise, ask any certified personal trainer this question and chances are that they will tell you the best machines for your butt would be:

  • StairMaster (or other stair climbers)
  • Elliptical Trainer
  • Treadmills
  • Cycling
  • Rowing Machine

Not necessarily in that order, of course. Depending on your trainer, they probably have preferences and will direct you to the machine that they prefer, but any of the above machines will really work your glutes and target the legs muscles as well (learn what muscles does a recumbent bike workout ).

For bigger glutes and stronger leg muscles, you can’t beat the low-impact exercise that elliptical training offers.

Whether you want to lose weight, tone your legs and arms, improve your cardiovascular system, get a beautiful butt, or do some serious training on your muscles, an elliptical is one of the best exercises you can do that is easy on the joints.

Even seniors with bad knees can use an elliptical with ease and if you have back problems, you can even find recumbent ellipticals. Try finding a recumbent treadmill!
